There’s a lot of great things about being a teenager today. For one, there’s so much freedom that comes with being able to drive wherever you want. I mean, I could pull up to Fielders at virtually any time that isn’t during school and extracurriculars, because those are my only obligations!

The Day I Got My License

Plenty of teenagers have part-time jobs and since there (for the most part) aren’t any bills to pay, that gives us the opportunity to spend money on the things we want. Another great thing about teenage life is the friendships. Almost everyday we see our friends and continue to make great memories. As you get older and focus more on taking care of your family and paying bills, the dynamic changes. When I asked Krista Barnett, a high school junior, she stated that, “What’s great is being able to be around your friends often.” Which I couldn’t agree more on.

My Summer Job

Although being a teenager is great and all, there are also plenty of downsides to it as well. Many teenagers have spoken about adults not taking them seriously because they’re young, which can be particularly frustrating when you actually have something to say. Moreover, though it’s great to have basically no adult responsibilities, the stresses of relationships, school, and more can add a lot of weight to our young adolescent shoulders. One thing that’s really convenient though, is that all these stressors end up teaching us life skills for the future. On top of that, many say that high school contains some of the most important years of our lives. That means that we are essentially creating memories and moments that will last a lifetime. At the end of the day, I would argue that although sometimes stressful and overwhelming, being a teenager right now is great because this is the most convenient time to chase our dreams.
