Inspired by the success of bloggers, citizen journalists, and digital content creators, a course was born. Its goals are lofty and the time frame short, but all the same it exists . . .
In order for New Digital Literacy and Journalism to work (not only conceptually, but practically) the students needed a playground on which they could pump their legs on the swings, traverse the monkey bars, and race down the slides.
There is the risk of falling down and earning a bruise, or being rewarded for one’s efforts with a splinter, but playgrounds are a play to throw (at least) some caution to the wind for the sake of fun.
The Flannel Narwhal is our academic playground.
Our hope is that you view the submissions here with an eye for the work’s intent. We’re only trying to aid you at looking at the world with a new purpose, a new perspective, or even just new information.
We expect that any failures you may perceive in the work housed here are overshadowed by their numerous successes.
